How to stay safe when gambling online
Safety online splits into three: is the operator legitimate, is your money protected, and is your phone set up so a bad night cannot run away from you.
Most advice covers the first and skips the third, which is the one that actually costs people money.
The account
A unique password and two-factor authentication if the operator offers it, which not all do. Biometric login on the app so nobody who picks up your phone can open a funded account.
Verify identity on day one. Keep a copy of the terms you agreed to, because they get updated and you will not be told in a way you notice.
The money
Use one payment method and keep it separate from your day-to-day account. A dedicated card or wallet makes the monthly total impossible to misread.
Turn off card storage in the app if there is a toggle for it. Take the card out of your phone wallet. Both add a small gap before a deposit, and small gaps are the whole mechanism.
The phone
Kill every notification the app offers, promotional and otherwise. Set deposit and session limits in the app's own settings before you need them.
Screen Time on iOS and Digital Wellbeing on Android will hard-limit a named app. If you want something stronger, blocking software at the network level covers the browser as well as the app, which matters because deleting the app alone leaves the website.
